Bert Huizen Furniture Company opened for business in 1926 at our current Burton Street location. At that time, Huizen’s was an upholstery shop with sofas and chairs made by Bert. His three sons, Bud, John and Roger oversaw the gradual transition from an upholstery shop to a furniture store. Four cousins, Gord, Craig, Bob and Mark were the next generation to be involved in the business. Craig and Gord are still active with the stores today. A quarter of a century ago, Huizen’s purchased the Plainfield building as a second location called Jurries, later Huizen’s. In 2004, the location was converted into Stonesthrow & EQ3, which offer modern home furnishings. Todd, Karen and Kathy are now the fourth generation to work in the family business.
